The Three Dimensional Interaction of a Supernova Remnant with an Interstellar Cloud

چکیده
We present the hydrodynamic evolution in three-dimensions of a spherical bubble embedded in a less dense uniform ambient medium as it interacts with a Mach 10 planar shock. This scenario is an idealized model of the interaction of an interstellar cloud with a large supernova remnant. A third order Godunov numerical algorithm and 5.2 million grid points are used to resolve the complex ow eld which results. We nd that the vortex rings observed in two-dimensional simulations are unstable in three-dimensions, and the cloud fragments in all directions. Turbulent mixing of the cloud and interstellar medium is complete, and is characterized by the formation of macroscopic vortex laments. The strongest vortex laments observed in our simulation may be responsible for the radio emission peaks observed in young supernova remnants.

Xmm-newton Observations of the Supernova Remnant Ic443: I. Soft X-ray Emission from Shocked Interstellar Medium
The shocked interstellar medium around IC443 produces strong X-ray emission in the soft energy band (E . 1.5 keV). We present an analysis of such emission as observed with the EPIC MOS cameras on board the XMM-Newton observatory, with the purpose to find clear signatures of the interactions with the interstellar medium (ISM) in the X-ray band, which may complement results obtained in other wave...
متن کامل4 Environmental Impact on the Southeast Limb of the Cygnus Loop
We analyze observations from the Chandra X-ray Observatory of the southeast knot of the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant. In this region, the blast wave propagates through an inhomogeneous environment. Extrinsic differences and subsequent multiple projections along the line of sight rather than intrinsic shock variations, such as fluid instabilities, account for the apparent complexity of the imag...
متن کاملSupernova remnant OH masers: signposts of cosmic collision.
A supernova explosion, the final death throe of a massive star, creates an expanding bubble of hot gas that overruns up the surrounding medium. When a supernova remnant encounters a dense interstellar cloud, the compression may trigger gravitational collapse and the formation of a new generation of stars. This event can be detected through intense stimulated emission in the 1720-megahertz trans...
متن کاملCrushing of interstellar gas clouds in supernova remnants. I. The role of thermal conduction and radiative losses
We model the hydrodynamic interaction of a shock wave of an evolved supernova remnant with a small interstellar gas cloud like the ones observed in the Cygnus loop and in the Vela SNR. We investigate the interplay between radiative cooling and thermal conduction during cloud evolution and their effect on the mass and energy exchange between the cloud and the surrounding medium. Through the stud...
متن کاملSpitzer observations of the N157B supernova remnant and its surroundings
Aims. We study the LMC interstellar medium in the field of the nebula N157B, which contains a supernova remnant, an OB association, ionized gas, and high-density dusty filaments in close proximity. We investigate the relative importance of shock excitation by the SNR and photo-ionization by the OB stars, as well as possible interactions between the supernova remnant and its environment. Methods...
